Hi all,
Just picked up a 1969 Eska 5hp model 1189 for free. motor hasn't run in 6 yrs.
When i crank the motor, it has no spark. I pulled the flywheel, cleaned and checked points ( visually, the coil looks fine, no cracks, points looked fine, and gap was at .020 already, the condenser looks old). Can anyone help me out with some troubleshooting to determine which piece of the electric system is bad? I dont want to install points and condenser only to find out that the coil is bad. I've checked resistance on motorcycle coils before, but i don't have a clue what the number values are for this coil. Thanks.

EDIT: found this site which explains the coil side. http://www.pochefamily.org/outboard/Coils.htm

If you're lucky you may just need to polish the invisible film that develops on points off with some worn-out 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper.

The Doug Penn coil testing video should get you set straight.

Points & cond. should be readily available at any long-time lawn equipment dealer.

Thanks for the help. I watched the video- coil checked out fine. I also cleaned the points for a second time with 400 grit wet/dry paper, and i now have a nice healthy spark. Thanks again.
