Hey guys just got a new motor tonight, its a Eska, no model number but the tag on the little Tecumseh Powerhead says T-643-19A which looks like a 1973 5Hp model. I got the carb cleaned but no spark. I set the points at .020, but the wiring looks funky to me. There is three wires going to the stud where the points come out of there little box. One to the coil and condenser (normal to me) and one to a small stud that is dead grounded, so the points never break and I never get spark.

Can some one please post a picture of what/ where the wires go under here? There is alot of new parts(points, condesnser, coil) that were replaced before I bought it but still no spark.

Re: Eska 5hp ignition wiring

I have one that is similar. It may have a solid state ignition. If so don't check for spark without having it touching the engine (grounded). My mod number 217-58610, ser 106107. Look it up and see if it is the same as yours. If it has solid state ignition and it has gone bad then you have a great anchor. I know they don't make them anymore, but sometimes you may find one on ebay. Hope this may help.

Thanks for the reply!

I have points, and the mystery wire I figured out was the kill wire and is working properly.

But I still dont have spark :(

I have cleaned the points, they work with no wires hooked up.

Coil seems good, primary windings are right at 1 ohm, secondary windings are 5.42K ohms.

I didnt check the condenser, but it looks brand new along with the coil.

Kinda stumped here, any ideas on where to go next? I'm thinking flywheel air gap maybe? But I cant find what its supposed to be.

IT RUNS!!!

Hopefully this will help some one in the future.

I did clean my points yesterday, but couldnt find my fils so I used sand paper. After I cleaned them I checked them with my meter on the diode setting that beeps when you have continuity. Everything seemed well.

Well I still had no spark and everything else was good. When I checked the resistance of my "clean" points, the meter would beep but I had 6 MEGA OHMS of resistance. There must have been a speck of sand paper particulate in betweeen the contacts.

I removed them and filed them down and it starts on the first pull now.

I'll post the official top speed readings from the water tomorrow :)
