I keep breaking shear pins and the motor slips and stays in neutral. I pulled the prop off and the pin is broken. is it the broken prop pin causing the motor to slip into neutral? BTW motor runs really well

The shear pin won't make it drop out of gear, that probably a shift linkage adjustment. Look at the port side of you motor leg about halfway down, and you ought to see an oval plate with two screws holding it on. snatch that sucker off there, and you've uncovered the sdjuster for the shift linkage. The linkage is in two pieces tied together by the screw under the plate. Mess with your shifter till you have the lower unit in neutral. Loosen the screw, don't take it out, and put the shifter control where neutral is supposed to be, then tighten the linkage screw, and see if it shifts like it's supposed to. For shear pins, stay with brass - the force required to shear it won't scrag gears. I went to my local welding supply store and bought a 3 foot section of brazing rod the same diameter. Lifetime suppy for squat. Why are you breaking shear pins? Are you getting a lot of prop strikes?

I don't see any plate like you mentioned on my motor
