eska 7.5

hello, i am new to this site, i have an eska 7.5 2 cycle outboard that came with a sailboat i bought. got the motor running as it had a minor carb issue. the motor apperars to be air cooled, but dont know for sure, when i run it in a tank no water runs out anywhere, but from looking around on the site it seems that it may be partially water cooled. just dont know anything about the eska, and dont want to ruin the motor, where would the impeller be located on a 7.5, any help or suggestions would be appreaciated. thanks.

Oh, yes indeedy it has a water pump, and do NOT run that motor long without some misting out the pee holes on the back of the leg. Take a look at #10 here;

You'll want to be sure and get a new key for the impeller, too. Don't buy parts from sears, I keep seeing that they rape you on shipping. Maybe these guys;

thanks, i will check it out. i havent run the motor long as i was concerened about the lack of any water running out.

If you don't know when the impeller was last replaced,by all means replace it.But as MahtyMaht stated,you will only see a fine mist of water being discharged,not a steady stream.Hold your dry hand near the exhaust,if it gets wet,the pump is working.

I should probably note that if you order the impeller as an Eska impeller, they skin ya for $25 dollars. I ordered the

18-3054 WATER PUMP IMPELLER - MERCURY MARINER - 3.5 - 9.8 HP

and it was $15. It's available more cheaply in other places, but boatsportandtackle had my whole shopping list, and splitting suppliers would have jacked the shipping and cancelled any savings. Also, if you get aftermarket gaskets, you may find that the carb to reed plate gasket is thicker than OEM, and that stands the carb off the reed plate far enough to screw with the throttle linkage, which means the stator starts turning and advancing the timing earlier than the throttle linkage starts opening up. Then you have to mess with that little throttle linkage cam under the flywheel to get it tweaked just right, because that's how throttle is co-ordinated with timing. Boatsportandtackle has OEM gaskets. So does Certified Parts Corporation.
