I just bought this motor. Everything seems to check out ok. The motor has good compression and everything, the only issue I have is that the prop won't turn when I pull the cord. This is my first outboard motor so i don't really know a whole lot about them. I am under the impression that when I pull the cord the prop should spin. Any suggestions?

Bob your model is equipped with a neutral clutch, you should have forward and neutal, the lever would be located on the left side if your facing the engine.
There commonly broken because of rust and neglect, however they generally are stuck in forward.

Mr. Crabs. Thanks for the information. I just have a few more questions. Will the lever still flip from forward to neutral if it is broken? If it is stuck in forward, how would I be able to tell? And when I pull the cord should my prop spin? Once again, I really appreciate the help, as I really know nothing about outboards.

The lever should still flip, its a cam that catches and releases the clutchs outer coller,
drive should be up, neutral the shift lever will point forward.

The clutch is a screwie little bugger and hard to explain but basicly when its in neutral its held by the cam and is spinning in the middle, when realesed by the cam the clutch locks into one piece like a direct drive. Its actually hard on the clutch to idle in neutral for very long, not to mention that your not pumping water to the engine either.

I'm sending you a personal message "PM" I can help you a little more but I don't want carhome to find out:D
