I picked this little motor up the other day for $100. Guy said it had been winterized but has been sitting for a couple years. I decided I'd take the chance. Poured some gas in it today, pulled it about 15 times and she fired right up!

The guy didn't know anything about the motor, I can not find a tag anywhere under the hood, and all the decals are gone... I'm pretty sure its an Eska Gamefisher, but I'd like to know more about it. It looks like it used to have a 7.5 sticker on the side of the hood, but I have not seen a single picture of an Eska with that decal....

Also, it has 2 tabs on the front of the motor, one is the choke, but I can not figure out what the other is for?? And, how do I go about shifting this thing? I assume it has reverse since it has a 'clutch' on the side and the throttle handle has 'shifting' speed on it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!boatmotor.jpg

if the pic doesnt show up, this link should work

Re: Eska/Gamefisher ID help

you gave 100$ for that??, WOW! by law I thought Eska were born free in this country... arn't they?:)

Ok no more jokes....lol
From your pic I see its a Twist grip model and from the remains of the decal I see what could be a "Gamefisher" decal but I swear I have never seen that hood config on anything but a older "Ted Williams",
Now on many of these the models the all metal sears tags is on the bottom of the engine pan at the rear...that would be on the outside of the pan in its own little recess, can't really verify HP unless you give me a side shot of the engine, unit blocks come in two variatys, 640's 7.5 and 642's 3.5-5hp, in this era of outboard,
find that 217-xxxx model or find the small metal engine tag bhind the carb at the reed cage will be a 6xx-xx number....

follow my link in my sig, maybe something useful for you there ;)

Re: Eska/Gamefisher ID help

here is a pic of the front of the motor, I have yet to see another one that matches it, and I did find a tag on the motor (it was covered with a healthy coat of paint.motor2.jpgmotor3.jpg

the cover does not have hinges, just one big screw in the back

Ok, you have a 217-585911 1976 7.5 hp w/ 640-07b engine mix at 32:1....thats a second run second gearation 640 7.5 w/aluminum Rod and 33 needle stainless rod insert and offset piston which replaced the 66 split needle forged steel rod and center pin piston models behind it, very nice little engine and if it fires I would say about all you need is a new impeller! ( sierra part number 18-3054) and a water pump seal and a complete carb rebuild and check the lower unit...if it leaks a little water in just change the lube after every run, they hold very little...I'm not sure if its Teddy or Gamefisher branded but It has solid state igniton....Achtung !!! never never crank it with out being positivly certian the spark plug is grounded, I use the common Champion RJ12C plug in those or autolite no. 86
Personal message me and give me a e-mail addy, I have something to send you....:watermelon:

PS pesonally I see no reason that she can't be run at 40-50:1, I like to decarb them with sefoam to unstck the rings and you will see the compression come up if its not been burnt
