Will a model 1705 Eska 5 h.p. powerhead swap with a model 1185 Eska 5 h.p.? The 1705 is a 643-19a and the 1185 is a 642-01a. Thanks.

Re: Eska powerhead swap

I'll answer my own question. Yes, sort of. The adapter plates are identical so that is an easy bolt-up. The problem is, at least with the powerheads I'm dealing with, is that the 1705 has the forward-neutral clutch (I'm guessing) and the 1185 is a constant engagement type so the 1185 driveshaft lacks about 2" of engaging the splines in the 1705 crank. I don't want to put any more money into this frankenstien project than I have already so I'm going to cut the driveline and add in another 1 7/8" or so. Anyway, that's what I've learned about the differences between an av520 and an av600. There is some differences in the reed valves and the stroke is around .250-.260 longer in the av600 but these don.t affect an engine swap.
