Re: etec 25 & 30hp performance tests
Thanks Steelspike.
I've been waiting for this (etec perfomance) for a while. Checked out the BRP site; it's a pain trying to access the performance test results, or at least not really clear how to for this computer dummy; but I managed it, and to boot, results are reported for the Starcraft 1620 Camp, a boat that I've been interested in for a while. 15 degree deadrise at counter (so maybe it won't hit so hard as my current 4-6 deg (?) deadrise Alumacraft V16), relatively light and compared to some boats inexpensive to buy, tow, launch & operate. I imagine that it is like many other well designed, well built brands, so is representative in a sense of boats that many well have or dream about.
The results, in 'rough' water conditions: 15.1 mpg (U.S.) with range of 82 miles on a 6 U.S. gal tank @ 6.1 mph & 2500 rpm on the tach; evidently not planing speed, and perhaps it's the hull speed for this configuration.
I was perhaps more interested in the ~ 12 mpg figures for 4500 to 5500 rpm & logged speeds of 19.1 to 25.5 mph. Now that's more like it ;- ) & evidently, still a little easier on fuel than wot. Truth is though, that it's not unusual in my case to be unable, or more often unwilling to steam greater than 15 kt (~ 17 mph?) in the lop, especially travelling any distance or time, so the figures from this test suggest to me that between 4000 & 4500 rpm the engine may be 'climbing the hill' vs. 4500 rpm & that fuel consumption would probably be somewhere between 11 to 12 mpg. I have been wrong, lots ;- )
It sure what be nice to know the performance date for a load that include 12 U.S. gal, two people in winter gear with a 6 hp kicker (55lb), safety stuff, food, guns etc. in a slight lop & long period swell - but I dream :- ).
Sorry if this is the wrong thread, but i just came in from shovelling 6" snow fr. driveway; I'll probably leave boat until tommorrow after the 60 mph NW'ly. We did get away yesterday from 08:00 to 14:00 & it was civil unlike today, so burnt ~ 20 L (4 USG) 60% fast idle (~ 5kt) though carrying 40 L & gear as mentioned. I'm pretty sure that we're usu. close to 1000 lb on most days.
Cheers
