Was wondering if any of you guys has in use an Etec 60 HP powering a 14-15 Ft light boat, if so, which was the max wot rpm achieved while running lightly or medium loaded ? Some folks have complained that Etecs comes factory delivered over propped and runs towards the lugging zone.

Prop is determined by vessel and load. Whomever rigged the boat, if competent, would have installed correct prop.

What you need to do is prop the boat so you hit max RPM rating with light load and trimmed properly. Max rpm is listed on the sticker on the transom bracket.

Not BRP fault here.

This combo is from a guy that belongs to my same boating club. Owner swapped an Etec 40 HP for an Etec 60 HP, he likes skiing with 3 up. A 40 didn't pulled him out of the water fast enough, he doesn't know a bit about correct prop maximization, min-,max wot rpm, trim, which would have been ideal to know before venturing buying a larger and pricier OB. This boat being light doesn't need a 60 at back transom.

There are boaters that are happy with their combo performance, they believe that factory has done a great job by installing a factory prop which we all know ain't so.

Have seen other OB brands including 2 Etecs with factory delivered props powering light boats which were found over propped after a wot test with tach was made to combo. Will see if owner would like to go for a prop maximization and get all the ponies out of that 60 faster.

60 etec owner here.2011,i can tell you for a fact mine did not come with a prop .Me and the dealer selected a couple .17p is best for me in al. IN stainless I have a reworked omc at 16 p.All will hit 6000 rpm dead on ,except for my solas 4 blade 17p which hits 5950. I have a 16 foot starcraft ss 160 which I believe is 600lbs empty. Those motors are more of a torque monster than a speed demon.i can put 40 gallons of gas ,food for a week, fishing gear, beer ,3 people and assorted other junk in my boat and speed and rpm drops about 1 mph or 2 .She just grunts and goes.

The beauty of the etec 40 to 60 is they have the large gearcase 13 tooth spline lower, which has several motors up the line and over the years that use that setup so there are tons of props available. All my old 1982 90hp evinrude and 1976 85hp props fit .I'm going to take a wild guess and ask if you tried a 19p or 21.? Ive got nothing bad to say about it atall its been a fantastic motor and flawless.Quite ,gas efficient, smokeless.Starts faster than any motor ive ever owned.A great running motor makes for a happy owner.

Congrats 82rude, nice classic combo. Last weekend went with this club member and myself for a 30 Km round an island full throttle water spin on calm flat water cond.

He and 3 more boating mates on his 470 Rib powered with an Etec 60 HP and 2 up on my 450 Rib powered with a 2 strokes Tohatsu 18 HP with maximized prop, both were boating side by side at around 21 knots running full throttle, his tach was not working, my 18 revving happily towards its max 5900 wot revs.

Etec 60 runs a 3 alum blade 19 pitch prop, which is over propped for that Rib and usual load, OB is badly height seated as there is some water splashe up transom, hull being an old design and much heavier compared to modern mine, his has more water drag to deal with.

Happy to know that a less HP-OB propped right for max load can match same performance of a badly propped Rib with hull issues running a 3 times more powerful OB. Ain't that sweet...
