Re: Etec Oil

If you've got the blue (XD50) oil in the tank and the dealer says he set it to run on XD100. That's a problem. You are working to get things set correctly on your engine. Someone needs to set the dealer straight. I wonder how many other ETECH engines he's sold with the wrong oil in the tank....

Re: Etec Oil

Did a search on google
blue etec oil?
took me to iboats and a 2006 discussion on etec oils etc.
Sometimes a google search does better than a iboats search.

Re: Etec Oil

The blue oil is evinrude XD 50.
Break-in in is done with double oil. Are you sure your fuel isn't oiled as well? Mine was done with 50:1 in the tank and 50:1 vro setting

dingbat the only real break in if you can call it that is the computer giving extra oil for the first few hours.i followed the dealers and erudes instructions to the letter and it was basically run it like you stole it !no extra oil in the gas or any ***** footing around with the throttle .actually 50:1 setting on the etec is really a misnomer as after the break in I calculated mine out to about 75 to 85 to 1 on the xd-50 setting .im leaning towards 85:1 as I had a few ounces left of oil when I toped it off and im going by 25 imperial gallons which is about 30 us gallons.

Re: Etec Oil

There are 2 oil settings that can be programmed into your motor.

From the factory it is set to TC-W3 which can use any brand of TC-W3 certified oil. The optional reduced-oil setting has to be done by a dealer and the engine can ONLY use the Evinrude XD-100 synthetic oil.

The owners manual states that the motor can use 1 tank of a TC-W3 oil in an emergency if the engine is set to XD-100, but not to run the motor hard.

As a previous poster mentioned, get rid of the blue oil and pour in the XD-100 as soon as you can. Run the winterize procedure afterwards to make sure everything is bled and the old oil gone from the pump and lines.
