Ethanol - My carbs are clean. I just re-built them.

With Ethanol in most fuel now should I ever have to rebuild them again? (other than for floats)

As a solvent, isnt it kinda like running carb cleaner thru them all the time.

If you're talking E10, no, it's still just fuel. Things will stay cleaner, but you can still get varnish deposits and dirt in the carbs as you use your motor...the varnish buildup will be slower, you may or may not notice the difference...it all depends on the gas itself. Depending on your state's fuel laws that blend can actually vary from 5% to 25%.

If you're talking about a higher percentage ethanol fuel, be sure to watch the plugs the first few runs. You may need to rejet the carb. I'd stick with E10 myself.

Ethanol can separate out from gas too. It's a good idea to give your tank a healthy shake before you fire up if the boat has been sitting for a week or longer. The trailer ride to the lake is enough to stir things up for me.

Another thing to watch out for is your rubber fuel lines. Some of the older stuff will start to break down from ethanol exposure. The fuel pump itself should be okay, just watch those lines. I haven't had any problems with the plumbing on my 71 25hp, but I'm still keeping a close eye on it as this is the first season I'm running the engine. Been running E10 in sled engines for at least 10 years with no problems.
