Just looking for general consensus. Most folks down my way don't seem to be too picky but I personally won't put Ethanol in my boat tank. I've seen the damage it can do on a previous boat I owned. No good is my opinion.

Your corn flakes cost more if they put ethanol in fuel. You can't drink ethanol that has gasoline added to it. Anything else for me to add? Nope.

If you're looking for a consensus you won't find it here !! Everyone has their own opinion. Just search through the threads - you'll be reading all night.

The only consensus you will find is that everyone thinks THEY are Right, and anyone that disagrees is Wrong. :D

And if you disagree with this, You're Wrong! ;)

I will tell you that oxygenated gas is much harder on rubber parts in the fuel system. I still run it though due to no gas stations near me selling it and I won't pay the higher price to gas up on the water. I transport fuels for a living.

Had a customer share some of his home made private reserves with me a couple weeks ago, I don’t think it needs to be mixed with anything, not sure they would waste it by burning it in an engine.

I have an old Sea Doo that ethanol turned the inside of the fuel lines to a green jelly. I replaced the lines to modern ones and it runs great.

I have a 7 year old 4 stroke that was made when ethanol was everywhere in fuel, and it has had zero issues running on ethanol fuel.

Pheasant hunters in SD don't appreciate it but the farmers sure do.

.

I'm not a fan of ethanol diluted gas. Don't like it, don't like it and don't like it. Did I mention that I don't like it??? LOL!!!

Since they no longer offer normal unleaded "pure" gas in my region (re: only ethanol diluted stuff is sold), then I'm stuck with ethanol "stuff".

So that is the reason why ethanol gets a bad rap, even problems that have nothing to do with it are blamed on it! In this case, that wasn't ethanol, those lines didn't stand up to gasoline! It was a well known problem with seadoo's prior to 2001, basically if you have gray fuel (or oil) lines that are tempo brand, you need to get them out ASAP, they will gum up eventually.

LOL Can't disagree with that. Not even a little.

I can, and I have the subjective data and hearsay evidence to back it up, too! UncleWillie, ethanol isn't bad, unless it isn't good. The ONLY exceptions are those rare instances when it's neither... or both.

Hope that helps.

Re: Ethanol vs Non-Ethanol

If there was a consensus, it may be these:
no ethanol is better than ethanol, how bad it is ranges from 0-100 (OK technically there's a small percent of it or something similar in 0% but we're talking E10)

Fresh ethanol gas isn't a problem; the discussion is what happens when it gets old--from a month to 4 years--ranging from 0-100.
Except in old systems with hoses that can't take it.

The effects are worse in hot, humid and fluctuating temps than in cold, dry or stable temps. That's why lots of the opinions that it doesn't matter come from Minnesota but not Louisiana.
Many will say (like me) that untreated or old E10 is a problem but it can be managed with treatment and use.

everyone agree?
