I used to have a 1968 Sea Bird 23' cuddy hardtop. The factory was in south Fl. Been out of business for years. I liked the boat, but it had an OMC stringer outdrive which I did not like. The hull was wood cored.

I have a 1968 19' Seabird runabout powered by a Johnson 115. It is built like a brick s--t house. I think it is one of the best boats that I have ever owned.

Thank You for your replys,heres the deal,let me know what you think.1976 seabird 23ft 5.7L merc cruser alpha 1 outdrive(rebuilt last year) has a trailer in fair condition I can buy it for $1,000.00 but I'm not sure because of the year and any possible resale value?? any comments Thanks again

Good old boats made in south florida but a 1976 IO? Even on a great day none of the 1970s IOs were reliable compared to current versions. Unless you want to take the risk on major engine work I'd pass...but do a compression test, check the manifolds for rust, run it fast in water for 30 minutes, etc.

I`ve got a 1974 24 footer. I love it.
Power is a in line 6 cylinder, no speed boat but plenty for me.
The boat has a deep vee hull and I`ve ben in some pretty snotty stuff in the Chesapeake bay and fish from the ocean from the eastern shore of virginia to the N.C. state line. Nice safe boat.
I paid $5500 for my boat and trailer in 1996 and I plan on hanging on to it.

Yes, I had a friend in Rhode Island who had one. I don't remember how long his was, but it was about 21 - 24 feet. His had an I/O too - I not sure what engine it had, but I think it was a six cylinder as well.

As I remember, it was a pretty decent boat. He used it mostly in Narragansette Bay, with occassional trips out to Block Island for fishing. I went on one of those trips with him and felt very comfortable in both the bay and the open ocean.

Here`s a pic of my 1974 24`. I know it measures 23 and some change but the manfacturers brochure calls them 24`.
I bought the boat in 1996 for $5500 w/trailer. I thought about a new boat but I like the boat and it`s paid for.
Power is an in-line six. I run about 22-25 MPH at 3500rpm. No problems fishing ocean front of Va Beach.
