My first thought was what about the animals outside ... cattle, deer, etc ... with little to no shelter! OUCH!

I think the record is about 7" dia. I was in several hailstorms where the hail size was between golf ball and baseball size when I lived in Kansas. I once saw one in a freezer that was about softball size. Roofers and body shops loved those storms.

Oh my Lord Jeremy! Sorry to hear you had damage.There isn't much you can do about the vehicles unless you can get them in shelter of some sort. You usually don't have time though.

I found the Oklahoma video on the weatherunderground site this morning which happened last Sunday.

We had one here prior to Katrina (lol, that's a New Orleans thing now - before or after Katrina, when you can't remember the exact year).

I heard about it on the news well before it hit. I managed to get my truck and boat under an overhang, so I was OK. A friend of mine didn't bother, thinking that it wouldn't be a big deal. He spent the next five years or so, driving around in a pickup truck, that looked like someone had spent 3 days beating it with a ball peen hammer.

I have never seen hail like that before. Does it mean that the conditions are right for a tornado? Or there is one in the near vicinity?

Drove into a storm on my motorcycle and was pellted with marble size hail once, thank god there was an overpass close.

Its so crazy!!

Home windows were smashed and caused damage with rain in the houses, smashed car windows were causing injuries to people (even the ambulances coming to help injured people were suffereing massive damage), flooding, and above all, power outages in many places.

Friends of mine in North Oklahoma City were told to seek shelter as if a tornado.

Not a great year for insurance companies!!

yuppers it does....hail that size...(over large marbles) duck and cover.

Hail is caused by a repeated cycle of raindrops, then hail, falling around the center core of a T-Storm and then being picked back up by the internal updrafts. When large hail occurs it is generally associated with larger storms, with extremely high vertical development. These storms are also referred to as "super cells." Since tornados are also associated with super cells, the answer to your question is, "yes."

We don't have to worry about tornados here on the coastline, or at least never have.

I can remember coming to Texas from NY when I was young and Dad making us all get out of the car and he and Mom laid on top of us in the ditch while a tornado passed over. I think we were in Kansas.
