I don't think that is a battery problem, TW. I think it is either your wiring or your starter circuit.

Did this just start after working right or is this a new installation?

I had the same problem. Got rid of the cables with the ends that fit on wingnut part of post and got a good set of auto clamp type. Problem solved, motor spins right up now.

yeah this is a new problem just this season!! I will check all connections and replace the ends as well...The battery pretty much went dead after about five minutes of trying to crank the motor..I may need to go ahead and get a new battery too!!

You might try recharging the battery and get a load test done on it before you get rid of it. It may be like the other guys say, connections or starter circuit. Just a cost saving thought.

Re: everstart deep cycle battery??

If you cranked for five minutes, your starter motor may have overheated, which could have caused it to try to draw more current than it should, which might have caused the cables to heat up. I think you have to give the starter a chance to cool a little after 30 or 45 seconds of cranking. I'd go ahead and replace those wires now.

If the battery is less than a year old, you might as well take it back to wallyworld & get a new one for free. They never do any kind of test on those batts, just say, "when did you buy it? Well, okay then, go ahead and get another one."
