I have found another addition to my checklist in preventive maintainence to my motor thanx to this web site. I was told about something called Sea Foam. This stuff is more like a tune up in a can.
I took out my spark plugs and sprayed a good bit in each cylinder, let set over night, and started motor next morning. Man, that stuff blew out all kinds of junk out the exaust. I then sprayed some in my carbs while motor was running and let it clean my system out. I had then took her out on the lake and she started without choke. I couldnt believe it. Then she came out of the water like there was no tommorrow. This is some good stuff.
I also used it on my weedeater and even she starts easier, and runs smoother. It did take a few pulls until she would fire up, now all it takes is one.
I dont know what this stuff is, but I highly recomend it for all motors. I was told to use 1/2 can every 3 tanks of fuel.
Does anyone have any better advise on how to use this stuff, or any advise on other products to use on these motors? What about a good additive in the lower unit lubricant?

Been using it for years. Add a little to every fuel fill up. Keeps the rings free.

Glad it worked out for you.

Yepp........ I put a can in every 3rd fillup. Keeps my motors clean. I also use it in all my fleet of internal combustion motors and I swear by it. I am however, getting tired of being a salesman for this stuff.... SeaFoam should give me free product, because I know I have sold tons for them.... :D :) :p

All my friends think I'm nuts. I just got a can of this recently...my merc wouldn't go above 1200RPMs under load. Did nothing but spray this stuff in...now it runs like new. :D Now I've been going around spraying it into every engine I own. (quite a few) It's made a difference on every single one! I've asked about this stuff before...anyone who has tried it raves about it, anyone who hasn't doesn't think it will work. :)

Manufacturer is "Seafoam". :D Go to seafoamsales.com...I think you can email them from there and ask where to buy it.

Buy both, the spray is a great penetrating lube and you can spray it into carbs/cylinder heads. The cans are useful as a fuel additive, or you can dribble directly into the carb on a running motor per instructions.

So its the same product in two different cans? I'll have to find a place that carries the spray as the carbs on my Merc 500 are impossible to get to on the water.

4 cycle engines too?

and speaking of two cycle engines, how is this stuff in another OMC product, lawn boy mowers ...

well, who knows who is making them now, this one is a few years old, I think OMC stopped making them quite a ways back; anyway, just dump a few ounces into the tank and let her rip?

Yep, it's the same thing, two different cans. Use it in anything...cars, trucks, boats, lawnmowers, chainsaws, motorcycles, generators, planes, go karts, scooters...whatever takes gas or diesel! :D

Re: Everyone should read this about sea foam

I have a problem here, I am confused. I have purchased four cans of deep creep, and four cans of seafoam. But, after deep thought on the subject of lubrication I now wonder about using the spray. I have seen it posted on this forum (and I agree) that you should not spray carb cleaner into the carb of a two stroke engine while running, as the innerds will then be performing without the benefit of the 50/1 oil mix. Now the same individuals say to use the seafoam spray, by spraying it into the carborator, untill it floods the engine, and chokes it too a stop, then pour in more (through the spark plug holes) and leave set over night. Then if boat is in a body of water take off at WOT, to flush all of the carbon deposits from the engine. Now, I am not doubting any ones know-how or methods, but this seems to me to be a damned if you do, and damned if you don't situation, and I am very confused . Both items carb cleaner, and seafoam both does the same thing, and the sea foam does not appear to have any lubricating qualities, Why would you say it is imperative that if you want to keep your engine in top shape to use sea foam in this way, but under no circumstances should you spray in carb cleaner, as you do on a four stroke. This does not make sense too me, how about ya'all?? Does anyone have a sensible explanation why it is OK to use seafoam in this manner in a two stroke engine, other than the fact that someone says this is the way I do it, or the manufacturer says to use it this way on the can? I am not a doubting thomas, I am just puzzeled. There are many products and methods over the years, that have been touted by well meaning individuals, as well as rip off artist, that are not as they may be advocated.

Good points, Lakeman. I'd like to try this stuff but I am always wary of these 'snakeoils'. This stuff sounds a bit like another Slick 50.

Re: Everyone should read this about sea foam

Seafoam does have lubricating properties, unlike regular Carb Cleaner. It is safe to use and does wonders for removing carbon in 2 and 4 stroke motors. This is from personal experiences and no problems. In the old days a few drops of water sprayed into the carbs. did the same thing, only with no lubrication.

Properties and Uses
