Here's a pic of the exhaust tube, (scroll down) it almost looks like a flat funnel the just clamps onto the transom assembly, instead of the bellows.

As far as the gimble bearing, I can't help you much, I only did it once, it worked out okay, but that was enough  It was a real pain to do.

Now I don't feel so bad for taking a half a day doing it... I may even have taught the neighbors some new words that afternoon...

I wasn't able to find a bearing driver big enough for a gimbal at any of the local advance auto, autozone, napa nor the harbor freight store.

ps. if you enoyed getting the bellows off, you;re realy goig to enjoy getting the surface up under there nice anc clean, coated with adhesive and then getting the .... new one in place and clamped down...

Ahhh, you mean even more joyous occasions are in my immediate future? Lucky me.

Anyway, I didn't have the patience to wait, and I kinda know the local machine shop so I went up there today and they made me a gimbal bearing driver for 20 bucks in <5 minutes :) I'll post a picture tomorrow, and it worked great in case anyone's wondering.

Okay, so next step, once again with no patience and not a whole lota loot I'll be heading to Lowes or home depot tomorrow for some outdoor carpet - unless anyone has horror stories about using it on a boat? Picture for that too I guess... and I'm thinking about just using the truck bed liner instead of bilge paint, any input on that?

Okay, so the last thing I'm really going to replace is the trim lines going from the pump to the little dist. junction. My question is are both of those hoses the exact same? One of them is black and one is grey on my boat - and with no experience with these or hydraulics in general I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

Aiming to have the boat in the water no later than next weekend. Oh and Tim, your alignment tool and puller should be to you by Friday, can be sooner if you need them sooner.

Re: Everything is apart and....

good deal on driver - I plan to buy one to make it simple next time around...

I've used that sort of carpeting in boats before and it works fine overall. Although I'm not using carpeting right now. If I still had young kids i probably would though.

No extreme rush on the tools, It'll be a couple of weeks before I need to put mine back together. Anodizing manifolds, having heads ported, and a few other mds / upgrades to do before I'll need the alignment tool. Thinking seriously about a bigger cam, ut not sure how far to go or whether I should. should at this point or not. Glad they worked for you.

Sounds like you've been cranking on that thing! OK, Off to work.. enjoy the day / weekend!

Question on the gimbal bearing install.

There seems to be a small lip in the race that holds the gimball bearing. Is the bearing supposed to make it all the way up to that lip and be touching/flush against it? My assumption is yes, but its bad to assume these sorts of things so please help.
