I bought a 115 hp evinrude fiche 1999 motor new and I have had nothing but trouble with it. Fuel injectors keep going and now I have it in for repair because it just up and died on me. I think it is either the fuel injectors again or a piston is gone. It was only used 3 times when the first injector went. I have had alot of trouble with the company to cover the warranty . I have only used it about 15 times since I bought it. I was going to sell it and trade it in for a 2000, or 2001 200 fiche. Can anyone tell me if it was made any better, or are there still problems with the 200.

Hi, Phyl.

The company that made your engine, Outboard Marine Corporation, went bankrupt and out of business in 2001, at least partly because the FICHT direct injection technology was not fully developed and was unreliable. Most of the problems were in the V6 engines.

After the bankruptcy, Bombardier purchased the assets of the outboard engines divisions (Johnson and Evinrude) from the recievers. Bombardier offered to cover warrantys on the 2001 models, though not legally obliged to do so. That left your engine, among many, an orphan.

I have read many tales that Bombardier has actually covered some warrantys on some earlier engines.

I would first find out if Bomb. has an update/upgrade available for your lemon to correct original problems. Then I would make VERY sure that you are feeding, lubricating and using the engine exactly as specified in the Owner's Manual.

Failing a solution there, I would have no worries about trading for a 2002 or later Bombardier made, Direct Injected Engine.

Good luck. :)

Phyl....That really sucks man, I know the feeling, I had and old 40 that would just never run right, it was always something everytime you went out. Anyway I have a 2000 Evinrude FICHT 150hp and have had nothing but pleasure with it, never a single problem. The only update I had was the injector brackets and the dealer did it for free. I have had people tell me that Bombardier had all the problems worked out by 2000 and I guess they did because this is the best motor I have ever owned. If I were you I would have no worries about swithching to the 2000's like JB said. Good Luck.
