Evinrude 115 hp overheating alarm

Hi Im new to all this so please bear with me................
I just purchased a small (17foot) Fletcher boat with an Evinrude 115 SPL engine.
It runs great however if I run it at 3/4 throttle for more than 5 mins the engine overheat alarm sounds. If I then put it in neutral and let it tick over for 5 to 10 mins everything is ok until I run at 3/4 throttle again for more than 5 or 10 mins?

I am mechanically minded however I don't want to strip the engine down unless its necessary , the main reason is that parts are very difficult to get out here and I could spend months waiting for parts etc to be delivered.
Any advice is very much appreciated

Do not know where you are located, but it sounds like at least a new impeller/pump kit may be needed.

Obviously there is a problem with the cooling system. A new impeller is a good place to start. Don't know why you don't want to tear into it right away-I sure wouldn't keep running it the way it is.

Where you located?? Strange, no parts.

Dubai, I cant find anyone here that sells parts for the Evinrude 115 SPL engine.
Your right I may just rip straight into the engine, the next question is can someone enlighten me on how to take off the gearbox? In the meantime Ill order a impeller kit.

That impeller goes for a lot of engines, give us a model number and year. There are several dealers in your area that should be able to help.

Part number should be 5001593. Even used on to days E-Tech engines.

Overheating at high speed can be due to a thermostat that is stuck in the closed position. No need to tear the engine apart until you determine what the cause is. Remove the thermostat and "suspend" it in a pan of water. Heat the water and using a cooking thermometer, see what temp the thermostat opens (if it opens at all). If you have a good stream of water from the tell tale the water pump impeller is probably ok but it is never a bad idea to replace it if it hasn't been done in several years.

Got it , Cheers Haffiman. Now can anyone just guide me how to remove the gearbox (what bolts to loosen at the engine end? Even if its just a picture than can show me what bolts to loosen.
Once I get the box off I'll be able to sort out the impeller.
In the meantime I'll test the thermostats.

Hi Gents
I'm just going through replacing the Thermostat and would like to know if there is an advantage in leaving out the thermostat all together?
The water temp here never gets below 17 deg centigrade.
I'd like your expert views

You need a 'pressure' in the system to ascertain full and even cooling, even at the charging regulator on top of the engine. Removing the thermostats and you may get an air-pocket on top as it will be no pressure valve controlling and even disrupt the circulation in the block. It will even make a havoc of your quick star function as you risk the engine may not reach the cut-off temp of around 34C.
