Evinrude 115 - Will damage occur if I run without a rectifier?

Will my engine run without the rectifier? Will i cause damage to my engine, or is it basically just to provide current to charge the battery? 1984 Evinrude 115

It is just for charging. It won't hurt to run without a rectifier, but leave the yellow wires open circuit.

Cool. When you say leave the yellow wires open circuit, do you mean cap the yellow wires coming from the stator before they get to the terminal block, or just let them terminate on the block?

Just disconnect the rectifier, leave all the other wires where they are on the terminal block.
