I have an evinrude 115 and do not know the year. Where is the serial # located? I found one on the transome bracket, but it is for a Johnson motor. It is a V4. I am attaching pictures that may aid in identifying. I did buy the motor from Outboard Exchange in Waterford CT, who specializes in rebuiliding motors. Unfortunately, we had nothing but trouble with it. It blew head gasket twice and is ultimately sitting with one frozen cylinder.

Are these prone to this or did we get a rebuilt lemon? Is it worth fixing?photoV.JPGphoto.JPGphotoII.JPGphotoIII.JPG

Any help greatly appreciated!

I believe it is a "Frankenstein" engine. I think the transome braket is that of a johnson hence the wrong model #. I do not have the model # right now, but I am going to the boat tomorrow and will look an d post.

Also, I would bring it back, but it is beyond the warranty period. It's a long story for a rainy day what we've been through with this engine and incompetant mechanics. Bottom line is that we are stuck with it and need to decide whether it is worth fixing or using as mooring and geeting something else.

Re: Evinrude 115

Glen,

I got the number off the disc...it is G 2545506. As suspected, that number is different than that of the number on the transome bracket (G 7742871). It seems the bracket is from a Johnson as the model # on the transome bracket was J140XCCM). Can you tell me the year and HP from the number off the disc?

im not sure how to trace a motor with that number i was hoping your plug would be like this one
freeze plug.JPG

it doesnt matter if transom bracket is a johnson as its still omc so thats no big deal. the engine you have is either a 120 or 140hp and it should be a good running sound motor when repaired correctly

your motor was originally a 1988 Johnson 140 HP with Extra long lower unit.( you are missing the T after the 140)

i thought the heads looked funny for a crossflow 115!!!! as they were obviously not those of a looper 115. The 115 specials were crossflows.

so you have an evinrude power head on a johnson midsection....and a 115 special motor cover....

if it runs...who cares?

if you bought it from Outboard exchange....id love to know what they represented the motor as HP wise....and model wise...

did you get a reciept...saying motor...or Evinrude 115 hp 19??

I would have thouight they were reputable..and had considered buying from them previously......if they are pulling this cobbed together crap...id wouldnt go near them

Re: Evinrude 115

Receipt was at my Dad's and I have been inactive on the forum as he was sick and passed away in November. Hoping the receipt surfaces, but I don't know when my Step Mother will give us access to his stuff.
