Hi all, anybody know of a service manual that covers replacing the neutral switch on the remote for a 1988 120.

Part of my problem is I'm not the person that took the remote apart and can't figure out how the two halfs of the remote go back together without breaking the neutral switch. Looks to me like part of the shift/throttle lever assm. needs to be separated so the part the neutal switch rides on can be put in the other side of the housing.

Thanks for any help, Dale

It's most likely covered in the accessories manual for that year, if you go to the ishopmarine website and click on OB accessories at the bottom of the page, you'll be able find to exploded diagrams of the remotes if that'll help.

Hi Dale. Best thing we can suggest is to get a service manual before trying to put the box back together. Just to much to go through on line.

Check the link below which goes to the BRP site and click on engine diagrams. You will be able to find at least a parts break down on the control box.

http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/

If you have more questions....don't hesitate to post.

OBJ...I wasn't feelin' too fast when that flu bug caught me last week

Dale, which remote do have? I have an accessories manual for '94 which are probably the same remotes used in '88. Maybe I can email the instructions if I know which one you have, ie: concealed side mount, binnacle etc. ;)

The big round shifting cam needs to be placed in the half with the neutral switch. There is a neutral detent ball too. You will see detents in the cam where the switch button and the ball sit when in neutral.

Hi Walker and the group, yes that is what I was thinking. The big round shifting cam needs to come loose from the shifting lever and then get placed on the same side as the neutral switch. The problem I'm having is I took the allen head screw loose from the center of the big cam but it won't come off. Is it pressed on and will require a puller or does it come loose some other way?

Thanks, Dale

Reinstall allen bolt, and back out aout 1 1/2 turns. Find pin punch that fits inside of the allen head recess. Rap bolt head with punch and hammer. Handle will now come loose.

Hi MCM and the group, Re which remote do I have - I don't know what it is called but I just posted a diagram of it at:
http://skiworldorlando.com/remote.gif
Number 23 is the part I'm trying to move. 28 is the screw I took out. I almost have it figured out, just don't know how the cam is held in place. Does it require removing the shift lever and ring number 69 and screws 64?

Thanks, Dale

Update - the hammer and punch trick did the job.

I have the unit back together now. Thanks, Dale
