Hi -
I have an 88 15hp evinrude, I've hear that the 9.9 and the 15 are the same...well..then
why would I get a 15 if I can get a 9.9 for a lower price?..what is the difference between the 9.9 and the 15.?

Carb, exhaust tube, reed shims, extra cooling line for the exhaust......thinks thats about it cause I can't remember what year that OMC started putting the tuned exhaust and shims in both the 9.9 and 15....oh and the extra 5 horses.

What is the same between the 9.9 and 15 is the basic powerhead, lower unit and therefore weight. What is different is that the 15 hp puts out around 50% more horsepower. I don't know exactly what is different, but similar to why various automobile engines of the same block size can put out different horsepowers.
