Re: Evinrude 150, carb issue

No I have to let it sit for like an hour once it stalls, I have no ideo what the problem could be. I will take it out on the water and it fires right up, drive around for about 2 minutes shuts off, no spuddering or nothing just shuts off. I take it home , next day try to start it in the driveway fires right up???? I have no idea.

Hello paboater,
I dont think that your engine year has the vapor pump ( started in '95 I believe). From your description, it sounds like you have an electrical problem. Your stator could be heating up, thus the hour plus wait to restart. Check the stator for burn marks. You might also want to start your own post as this one is imbedded in alex's and the experts out there may overlook it.
Good luck.

Hey rick I am not a very good mechanic but thanks for the advice, can you tell me where I can locate the stator? Also what could cause this, overload? or just worn out?

Re: Evinrude 150, carb issue

Well, good news is always followed by not so good news it seems (at least with me and boats, or more accurately, me and two stroke motors)

Boat was in the water tonight and fired right up, idled great through the warm up, but when idle settled engine blows a fair amount of smoke (using OMC branded oil)begins running rough and dies out. Primer bulb is not completely firm, but priming bulb as engine begins to run rough does not help. Engine will restart and runs absolutely wonderfully above 1000-1200 RPM, I just have to be quick to put a load on it before it stalls. Again, really smoky...

Is there a way to chemically clean the carbs before disassembling them....or maybe I've still got a air leak somewhere, just much smaller (but pressing the choke doesn't remedy the issue, just kills the engine so I'm thinking not).

Any additional advice is appreciated.

Sorry to hear that Alex. Could be fuel pump if the engine runs at higher RPM. I replaced mine with a conventional non-VRO pump, and I now mix my own gas w/oil. The smoke you see is the oil being injected with little gas. You might want to run a compression check first. The non-vro pump is also alot cheaper than the vro.

I would try a de-carb with Sea Foam, see the FAQ's.
