After idle is adjusted I move to the cam follower adj - this is where I get a little confused. As I understand the book, when you move the throttle, the first mark on the cam follower should start to touch the carb at 7 degrees. If I set that correctly and go to full throttle the carbs don't fully open. How critical is it to be at 7 degrees? I thought mabye the the throttle cable might be bad - it has a little play in it so I have to use the adj screw to to push the throttle linkage back to the idle position. How often do cables go bad - get streched? My current setup, I set idle to ~ 850 (in the water) then lined up the first mark on the cam follower to the carb. I then go to max throttle to ensure all carbs are open. I am not looking at timing except for MAX timing. At idle to ~1100 rpms all is working great then ~1200 - 2000 it is a little rough, after that all smoothes out and it runs good and powers to 5600 RPMS WOT.

Isn't Wot supposed to be closer to ~5000 RMS?

From what I have always heard WOT should be ~5500. I guess I will have to do some more reading and find out what WOT should be for an Evinrude.

Whatnyear is your motor?? Worry about your WOT RPM's after you get the link & sync correct and the carbs are opening fully

Not "an Evinrude" but "your specific Evinrude". Your service manual should have this - it is a basic spec, even if you're not doing a tune up, but for prop selection/set up.

The engine is a 1990 Evnirude 150. After studying the book for a little while and looking at the engine, I think I understand the process. I will give it a try tomorrow and see what happens.
