My 1990 150 Rude is very hard to steer, and I was wondering if the cable mechanism is connected to the wrong hole of the steering pivot arm. I have 3 holes on my arm and my steering is hooked up to the hole closest to the motor. Seems this would provide the least amount of leverage. Any other ideas? My cables are in good condition as far as I can tell visually. I did disconnect the cables from the motor. Both motor and steering wheel turn with little efffort. Thanks for any help.

It is supposed to be connected to the hole closest to the motor. The outer hole is for a dual engine tie bar. If you connect to that one, you will have reduced steering arc.

Is it hard to steer in only one direction?

Unhook the arm from the cable end and see if the steering is still tight. Then turn the motor by hand and see if its tight.
