Evinrude 150hp ficht yr 2000 sputtering.

I have an evinrude 150 ficht yr 2000. I heard all the horror stories but this motor has been running great. The problem started last season. The motor sputters like it is loosing fuel. I took it to a local marina and they told me water was gitting into my pistons and it needed new o rings. They replaced them and it ran fine for a couple months. The problem came back again and I changed the O rings myself it didn't look like they needed it but it ran great for a nother couple months. Now the problem is back. I looked at the orings again and they look fine. There is some carbin in there but I don't think that is the problem. I called the marina and they told me I should buy a new motor. I don't think so. I would appreciate any help you could give me. I called evinrude and they sound like they don't have a clue.

Thank you for your response but I do have the correct plugs. I wish that was the problem.

Then just do the tests to isolate the problem area,
compression test,
spark test
and if they are ok then move on to fuel delivery.
Compression guage and spark gap tester cost me less than $40 at autozone. Its not rocket science.

I would not consider the Ficht as a do it your self engine. Do you have the factory manual, and proper test equipment?

I agree with you, I don't have the right equipment so I just dropped it off to a Marina. Ill let you know how it goes.

I think they found the problem, They found an ignition coil was overheating and replaced it. It seems to run great. Thanks for all your help.
