Finally, my 87 15hp evinrude's runnin like a

champ but I'm still having fuel line problems.

I'm now on my 4th brand new fuel line, with new

fittings, and 5 bulbs. Its still not getting

stiff when you pump bulb and sometimes I have

to pump it while i'm pulling on the motor to

get the fuel going. I'm done buying lines,

fittings, and bulbs. Can I remove the fitting

and put on the compressor type at the fuel

tank? My dad has a Nissan 25 and I plugged it in

the other day and within 2 squeezes, it was

firm.....Thanks for any advice.....Warren

Hi Warren,
Millions of other folks use the regular OMC fuel fitting with no problem, so I would say your problem lies elsewhere. Is the tank in good shape? Try a different tank. Are the under-the-hood connections in good shape? Is the cap on the fuel pump on firmly (but not too tight - it'll crack). Find the problem and fix it - don't try band-aid solutions...
- Scott

hello
what brand of line/bulb are you using?
is the tank metal fitting in good condition. all the fuel primer does is fill the carb fuel bowl and the fuel pump. after that it does not stay hard as it is on the suction side of the engine pump.the bulb usually must have the arrow pointing skyward to pick up fuel if it is empty. you may be sucking air. or if you have a bad fuel pump diaphram it will pump up but not hold. this usually results in flooding and poor running.I dont like the new OMC/Bombardier bulbs with the yellor inlet valve. I have seen to many fail. suzuki makes about the best but they are small. yamaha would be my next choice.

good luck and keep posting

Re: Evinrude 15hp Can I Change the Fuel Fitting??

Thanks for the reply's. I'm on tank 3 or 4, 1 metal and 2 or 3 plastic, with several new fuel lines by Atwood and Tempo, brand new fuel pump, not a rebuild, and 3 fuel tank fittings. One thing that i'm thinking it might be is that everyone complains about the O-rings going bad on the OMC fuel lines. Well neither the Atwood or Tempo lines have this O-ring, just plastic. Are these lines and fittings defective? I was going to purchase an OMC line but figured the aftermarket products would work.....Hmmm, I have no idea what to try next.......Warren

You already have the answer.

You said " - - - 4th brand new fuel line, with new fittings, and 5 bulbs. Its still not getting
stiff when you pump bulb."

Now you know why folks on this board recommend OMC bulbs, lines & connectors. The o rings are far less of a problem than motors that don't run right because they aren't getting enough fuel or are sucking air.

Warren,

Don't forget about the male fitting on the engine.
