Hello, I am a long time lurker, first time poster. A couple of years ago I purchased an Evinrude Fastwin AquaSonic 15 hp outboard, I am not exactly sure of the year, but I have read these are pretty good engines overall. I purchased the engine at an auction so I really have no idea how well the P/O took care of it or when the last time it was run. I have been reading a lot of helpful posts on things to look out for with this model and overall recommendations for using an outboard that has not been run in awhile. I figured I would start by oiling the cylinders and making sure everything turns over fine, then removing the prop and checking the shaft seal and making sure there is no fishing line wrapped around the shaft. Then I planned on draining the gear oil and replacing the impeller and possibly resealing the lower unit. From there it will be things like rebuilding the the carb, new spark plugs, and over-hauling the complete ignition system since this is an area that is reported to go bad on these old Evinrude's. I have a copy of an original 1955 manual, but aside from basic maintenance topics it doesn't go as in depth as I would like in regards to some of what I plan to do, so I feel I will be utilizing this forum a lot. I've read some posts on how to replace the impeller and remove the lower unit on other older outboards and other Evinrude models from that time period, but I can not seem to find any information specific to my exact model. Here is where I am hoping to get some guidance one how to proceed with replacing the impeller. I have never really worked on outboards before, besides the most basic tasks such as greasing and draining and refilling the lower unit, so any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. -Jake

whoa. '54/'55 I think. Post a model number -- think F.R. might have something to say on that one.

(and Welcome aboard!)

Give that motor a complete evaluation / inspection before spending any coins on it.
