I have a 1962 Evinrude 40 hp Lark IV Model 35531M (M for manual shift)

I have bought 3 different books trying to get the parts numbers on the lower manual shift unit and they always show model x, selectric shift or some damn thing that's not even close

Has anyone got a parts number manual for this model number or are they history

If you do, would you please tell me how and where to get one ?

$90.00 later and looking .... Thanks

I"ve got that part's manual, but you can bet that part number has been changed many time's. I could go thru all the number's but my guess would be that when I get to the last one, it would be no longer available. What do you need?

Here's a suggestion ... search on eBay for "1962 40 Evinrude" ... pick a couple sellers listing a parts catalog, and use "Contact Seller" to ask if they have a parts manual for your model motor.

Been there done that (lets call it lack of communications)

That's why I'm almost in the manual business without one for my model :)

I'm sure I have the parts on the way that I need to fix this beast but what a time I had trying to find them.

When the seller listed parts numbers and I had none to compare with

I want the correct manual so next time I need a part, at least I have a chance of comparing numbers

Just for information, "M" does not stand for manual shift. There is a "L" and a "M" version. The number indicate some mid-year change, I don't know what the change is without looking.

Anyhoo, 35530 is a 1962 40hp Lark short shaft, manual shift
35531 is same except long shaft

35932 is a 1962 Lark 40hp short shaft electric shift
35933 is a long shaft

Somebody is sending you the wrong books. I have the parts manuals for both. Send me a PM with your e-mail address if you are interested in one of them.

EDIT: I took a quick look and there are several changes. Fuel connector, vacuum cut-out switch base, throttle linkage, to name a few. They are all indicated in the book.

Do you want the manual for a reference as to how the gearcase goes together, or the part's number's. Most of those part's number's will be worthless, unless you have a whole stack of old price manual's to give you the part number change's. Again! what do you need? I have a 60 manual gearcase, short shaft. Your going back 49 years here. It would take a long time to researce what will inter-change. I really don't want to wade thru all that literature.
