Compression
Spark
Fuel delivery
Spark plug condition

No matter what work has been done you need to check the above before moving on.

Re: Evinrude 1964 28hp will not start

I checked spark top cylander jumps very strong, but the bottom is weak.

could that be bad ignition coil?, both coils physicly look good though. can it be something else case that? I plan to do compression check soon, but i still wonder about bottom cylander park, Thank you.

Switch plugs around for starters. Check where the plug wire goes into the coil, may not be seated. Recheck gap again.

check for a sheered key and before running the motor making sure you torque the flywheel down to the proper torque

Re: Evinrude 1964 28hp will not start

I checked copression on evinrude 28 hp, getting 100 top cylander, 104 on the bottom are these any good numbers ?

I still do not have better spark on bottom cylander with new condensor points and ohm out the same as top cylander. what could it be?

Thank you.

Compression is ok. Switch coils and see if spark problem follows the coil. They can look ok but still be bad.

Re: Evinrude 1964 28hp will not start

I ordered a new coil from iboats today, see what happens when i get it.

Could it be something else besides a bad coil with no spark? Thank you.

Could be many other things. Let us all know how you make out with the new coil first though since yo are getting one.

Ok just re read your post, when you pulled the flywheel one point has no gap at all, of course it wouldn't , the point wouldn't be open on the one side, it would be closed on the other. Are you sure you set the .020 gap on the points on one side and rotated the crank to the other point and set it when it was on the cam??? They are set when the highest point on the cam makes contact with the point, you have to do this twice. If the gap isn't set properly spark will never occur properly or at all.
