Evinrude 1965-1978 9.9hp power enhancement

I have an evinrude 9.9 that was built between 1965 and 1978. I got the age range from the service manual i got with the engine when i bought it. The engine is in good condition, other than a slight stumbling at idle speed. (anybody experience this also?) I have heard that this engine can easily be upgraded to 15hp output by changing the carb. Is this true? Where would i go about finding this part? I am also interested in installing an electric starter. Can this engine accept an alternator? Are there any other performance mods that i should look into? Thanks,<br /><br />-Andy

Alex, Post the model number of your 9.9 and someone can give you the exact year.this will be necessary for locating interchangeable parts. <br /><br />Read this
