Recently purchased a boat with an evinrude 70573e on it. The coils were all cooked so I replaced them and have just replaced the stator which was melted. Before replacing the stator it turned over but didn't fire. Now it won't turn over. Battery is charged. I'm new to fiddling with motors so what's the next step.

Check and clean all your connections. If still no turn, jump the starter with a known good battery.

It's turning over now after replacing the battery, but not firing. Has new plugs, stator, and coils.

Make sure the small glass 20 amp fuse in the engine's main wiring harness is not blown. If it is, the engine won't do anything. It's by the start solenoid.

If there was that much damage to the electrical you will probably need a new powerpack also

I've just replaced the fuel line because it was leaking near the primer and I thought it might be sucking air and that's why it would only run for 10 seconds. Now all I get is it turning over with a few puffs of smoke. Ready to throw in the towel. How much would my motor be worth running sweetly?

Check the flywheel key. If you have recently been through a lot of engine cranking, sometimes the flywheel key will shear. Once that happens the flywheel gets out of time on the crank. It may fire once every few rpm's, or even backfire, but won't start.. Pull it off and check to see if the key is intact or sheared....

Any pictures of the " cooked coils " on that motor?--------If that was caused by overheating then a compression test is the next thing to do.-----Post the values of that test.

Compression test results 120 top 120 middle 115 bottom
It will start for aroun 5-10 seconds and then cut out. then it wont start again. Seem to be flooding or something. spark is good. Got new floats and needle and seat in the carbys. float is set correct. New fuel pump. New fuel hose and primer. new fuel. Could there be something wrong with the fuel tank or tank vent? would that cause a problem.

Check for spark again. The plugs may show fire, out of the head, by just laying in place on the block. It's another thing to have spark when the engine is under compression. Takes more voltage to fire the plugs....A vent blockage will eventually cause a suction in the tank-over time. That's the operative word-over time. The engine should run with a blockage, then slow after maybe a couple of minutes, as the suction builds up in the tank. Is the choke working? These are a bear to start without the choke working.

How do you check the spark under compression? Is there a way to test the power pack? I haven't had this motor running properly yet. Not sure if the choke is working?
