I going out to look at a used 115 HP tomorrow, and perhaps buy it, a 1991. Will it be crossflow or looper. When did the 60 deg v start? Will I get lower mileage from a 115 than from a 140HP. I heard about pour mileage from the v´s. Did this get better in the newer years, i. exa 91 ? Anything specific to look for, besides l/u oil, compression and spark. The motor was serviced, but sat 4 years now, wintherrized. Fired up with no problems the other day. Owner claims compression should be 150 on all 4.

Asking price around $ 2500 - fair ?

Appreciate your thoughts.

G DANE,
I believe that's gonna be a Xflow. The V4 loopers were 120 & 140hp. I don't when the 60* V's came out.

c/6

Hooty

The looper V4 60 degree (90-115) came out in '95, the V6 version has been out since '91.

the old saying goes buyer be ware so invest in a compression kit check the compression plugs visually inspect lower unit oil remember when selling a motor some guys put fresh gear oil to mask a problem so if it at for 4 years really look at the gear oil

They're good motors, sturdy and dependable if well maintained. Also made before the OMC management started ruining the company.

Re: Evinrude 1991 115HP

I did buy it !

Compression was: starting right bank from back:122, 122, 122, 132. It was freezing 7 deg celsious, and batteri was low, it crancked reeaally slow, only 3 shots pr. cyl. I did not add oil, and it has sat for 4 years. Everything seems fine. Is this compression low ?

Does this motor have rev limiter and S.L.O.W. system ?

Hi G Dane,

Congratulations! ;)

The compression looks ok to me, just a little bit strange that difference is about 10 between the cylinders but I think it is right on the accepted limit. Maybe a decarb will help you on the way......

Happy boating!! (When the ice disappears) ;)

/Tommy

Just another question:

Where do you lift this beast ? Do I have to make an eyebolt for the flywheel puller threads, or what ? We put a rope around the mid section and cowling and lifted it off. I got a wrong information from the owner, it wasnt fired up the last 4 years. Does it affect the compression til oil gets around ? Plugs were dry, black and soothy.

G DANE,
That's what I did. I made an eyebolt that screwed into the center of the puller and yes oil in the cylinders will make a difference in the compression readings.

c/6

Hooty
