have a rebuilt 1993 200 evinrude. starts ok but with a lot of smoke, leaned out carbs 1/3 turn, less smoke(don't want to lean too much).if engine is warmed up and I shut off and leave for about an hour engine will restart but boggs when given gas. the bulb is new but never gets hard. takes three or four times(starting)to get to where it will accept gas. Oil consumption seems high? Could I have an air or vacumn leak in fuel system? Would this cause excessive smoke?, and hard restarting problem?Any help would be most appreciated :( [*]null

HI, Yes an air leak or vacuum leak in the system will cause excessive oil consumption if you are using the VRO system.

Don't lean it out to get away from smoke. Smoke has more to do with oil quality and spark plugs. Use a good OE oil or Pennzoil synthetic blend, FRESH 87 octane and the correct Champion plugs.

Yes, a fuel restriction or pump problem will cause it to dump more oil. Check it out and let us know.

Good luck!
