Just changed the lower unit oil and found some traces of metal on the magnet. No indication of water, just minute--almost powdery metallic deposits. Is this mormal or do I have a problem?

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like just normal wear S2100. New engines will display this and engines without a lot of run time will, also. What kind of rpm's do you have at idle before shifting into gear.....and also, when you shift, are you snapping the engine in gear or using a slow shift.

A metalic cream is normal,If you can feel small junks when you rub your fingers together then thats not so good, possible worn clutch dog,or other parts.

Re: Evinrude 200 Ocean Pro Lower Unit

Thanks for the replys to everyone.

My idle is around 700-800 rpms in gear and the shifting is normally very clean and not abrupt.

The deposits do feel like cream when I rub them between my fingers but are definitely metal as I can see them "stand up" and align while in the mag field. Nothing bigger than the consistency of graphite.

Good to know this is normal.

Thanks again,

S....when shifting, snap the gear in....don't mess with it. "Get it in gear"...so to speak. This will save a lot of wear and tear on the dog and gear lobes. The idle rpms' sounds OK.

Got it--none of the grinding that can sometimes occur when shifting too gingerly.

Thanks again,
