Evinrude 20hp 1972 fuel pump problem

My Evinrude 1972 20hp fastwin doesnt run properly without manual pumping fuel to engine. It runs for 10-15 seconds after I pump fuel manually, and after that it runs in higher rmp and starts to caugh.
I ordered new fuel pump from boats.net but, it didnt solve the problem. I noticed that I have to blow very hard to get air going trough the pump. Is this normal or is pump broken?

sounds like a fuel system clog. check every line and make sure nothing is clogged up.

I have checked lines and it works fine with my old -63 sea king fuel pump. So it is something wrong with that new pump?

is it a sierra?? - if so then yep....
if you still have your old one send the new one back and buy one of these ..... comes with instructions and your pump will be like a brand new one

Rebuild Kit 393088 doesnt have the part where are the valves. I have bought it and rebuilded the old pump, but it doesn work. Iboats pump is genuine Evinrude part. Does somebody have more succestions?

can you put the new pump on the seaking??try that if its a no go then the new pumps messed up

Maybe I solved the problem. I installed fuel pump so that output of pump is downwards. Now it seems to work. (it worked now 15minutes ) Before the line from fuel pump to carpuretor went upwards and fuel lines highest position was much higher than carpuretors bottom. Could this cause the problem? I hope so.

It could. Many pumps have a Top and a Bottom marking on them for that reason.
