Hi,
I've got a 20hp Evinrude from 1985 (205B62B); it's a somewhat rare export variant apparently so I'm having a bit of trouble finding information or schematics on it.

I bought it from a reuse center for $25, mostly as something to mess around with and perhaps learn a bit about outboards while I'm at it. I'm not going to be investing much in it, apart from getting a new impeller if I get it to work otherwise.

Forgive the long introduction, it won't give a spark. I've removed the starter housing assembly and flywheel, and the engine is now as in the pictures. Before I start to disassemble anything further, I'd like to get the wiring correct. There are a number of cables that I don't have a clue how they should be interconnected.

Here are a few pictures showing the cables (I've labelled the connectors for easier reference):
Picture 1
Picture 2
Picture 3a
Picture 3b
(Picture 4)

Pictures 3a & 3b show the same two cables, but there are two connectors on each cable.
Picture 4 isn't a cable in itself, but a connector that was lying around inside the engine not connected to anything.

I wonder if you could help me by telling me how these cables should be connected together correctly? Am I missing a wire, which seems to be the case as the connector in picture 4 wasn't connected to anything? There are old strands of wire on it, so it has definitely been connected to something previously.

Many thanks for any help!:)

Re: Evinrude 20hp 1985 Wiring Question

that is an early 70s Evinrude, export or not. Judging by the looks of it, somebody tried to add a second kill switch to the tiller handle.
