Hi folks, I just bought a 1981 235 rude model#E235TRLCIB cheap. I ordered the service manual yesterday, but in the mean time..... the power trim is up alittle and I could save room in the garage and make my wife happy if I could lower it. I understand the blue wire goes up and the green wire goes down. I hooked up the ground to battery and tried to jump wires and nothing happend. It also has a "lamp cord" looking 2 wire cord that looks to be coming from under there also. Is that standard or something the previous owner rigged? Any help is much appreciated.

That "lamp Cord" wire should run the engine up, or down, just by changing polatity.

Blip..... That PTT has a dual polarity setup (a 2 wire motor), meaning you hook up "both" of the battery cables to the PTT electric motor.

Hooked up one way, the motor goes up. Hooked up the opposite way, the motor goes down.

Re: evinrude 235 power trim

Ok Im back from dinner and I appreciate both replys. I just tried to jump the four wires starting with just the positive from the battery in different combinations and nothing happenend. Then I tried positive and negative together in different combinations. The blue and green gave me a spark but nothing else. I checked with a ohm meter and got continuity between blue and green. Do you know of a on line schematic or could you put it in simple terms. I just want to lower the engine approx. 5 inches to bottom. Thanks again.

Blip.... Okay, you've got the older style 4 wire plug connector whereas the electric motor is not the dual polarity setup (sorry for misleading you in my previous post). I see now that your engine PTT has the solenoid for the up mode and direct wiring for the down mode... not the dual polarity relay setup.

Negative battery cable would connect to the large Black wire in the electric motor connector, with the positive battery cable connecting to either the Blue or Green wire depending on the direction desired.

Contact me at my address below and I'll send you a simplified wiring diagram for that unit.

Ok sorry to be a pest (I know too late) nothing worked. Thank you Joe again. I'll wait to receive the manual for trouble shooting procedures. But in the mean time is there a way to remove a oil filling screw to release the pressure and lower the engine and if so which one or ones, Thank You.

Mine is an 86 and I can only lower the motor to the top of the trim range with out running the trim motor. If you want to move the motor in the tilt range on my 86 there is a pressure release screw on the starboard side. 2 turns and the motor will drop until it hits the trim rams.
Mac
