I just launched for the first time this year. The engine ran well and showed water out the tell tale but started to show less and less then overheated. I think the t stat is stuck but I can't find it. I think the engine is about 15 years old. Anyone know where to look?

Sailvela..... 15 years old would make it a 1988 25hp. The thermostat would be at the top and in back of the water jacket plate that covers the cylinder head.

I am not at the boat now but I am thinking you mean the cover at the port side of the engine which has quite a few, maybe 8 or 10 bolts. I was hoping it was under a smaller plate. Please confirm/ It there any special way to get to the lower bolts that can't be reached by a socket wrench due to the cowling?

thanks for the reply

NO!..... I am speaking about the plate that covers the cylinder head. The engine has only one cylinder head and there are two spark plugs screwed into it. I am not speaking about any plate on the side of the engine. What is the model number of that engine so that we can pin point the year it was manufactured.

ok, Understood.

By the way, I flushed the engine with the garden hose and muffs last fall and let the engine drain without tilting it. (and fogged it) Was this ok? Should I have tilted the engine to drain it? Could I have freeze damage I should be looking for? We hada very cold winter.

thanks
