merry christmas!
we are getting are biggest christmas snowstorm here in connecticut(10-14inches) in a 100 years!
well, my question is: what should my WOT rpm be on my motor? i know prop and pitch plays a role but what is the max the engine will be most happy with? the motor has been finger ported(no compression changes) and it has boysen reeds. my service manual says 4500-5500 rpm,s.somone told me i should see 6300. what are you guys running this motor seeing? thanks...james

If you have not done any work on the inside, rods ect I would not run the motor over what the service manual says. Better to have lone life then to go 1 or 2 MPH faster and end up towed back to the dock with a rod through the powerhead

Hammer, If you run that engine at 6300. You will blow that up. Max is 5500 wot. I would run 5000-5500. If you had to rebuild that one, your looking at one expensive propostion. So keep it at 5500.

I HAD A 85-300 V8 THAT WOULD TURN 63OO TO 6500 SPINNING A 25 INCH RAKER ON A 21 CHECKMATE. THE KEY THING HERE IS IT WAS HARD TO KEEP IT THERE WITHOUT A PILOTS LICENSE, SO I STAYED AROUND 5500 TO 5800 HAVE FUN IN THE SNOW. NOTHING BUT RAIN AND FLOOD TIDES HERE. LATERS NJBOATS

There is no reason not to turn that motor up. The rev limiter is at 6300 or 6700 - depending on the power pack. We have used those rods (in stock form) at 9300 rpm.

I would set the boat up to turn 5800 with an average load. Fine tuning the X dimension and prop type has a lot to do with the hull design.

Those motors are finger ported from the factory. If someone has done additional port work that may have a bearing on your target rpm. What exactly did they do? What type hull are you using?

Keep us informed and good luck!
