Yes they are "clear", but, if the primer fitting is plugged it will be real hard to start the engine. That fitting hole is real small so it wouldn't take much to plug it. When mine plugged the prime knob was very hard to operate and I think the pressure cracked the hose at the fitting. Take a coffee filter and pump a few shots from the primer onto it and see if there are particles. Take a small "windex" type bottle with some gas in it and spray it in the carb while the butterfly is open..then see if it starts.

Did the coffee filter test. A few small bits of rubber(hose). A piece or two of undetermined matter and the odd tiny flake of orange tank paint. Kinda stupid that the inside of the tank "lid" area is painted. Originally just before this problem occurred in July all of the small primer hoses split. I replaced them. The larger hose from the bowl to the primer was not replaced. I will replace that one. After doing so, would you suggest that I get a can of compressed air and spray into the brass fittings to clear any debris that may be lodged inside? Would I then need to take the carb apart to remove any debris? New tank as well?
Thanks for all your suggestions, guys.
P.S. Currently looking for a "windex" type bottle.

Yes to all. Replace any fuel lines that you have not replaced yet. Take carb apart and blow all the jets and orafices out with compressed air. If you got junk out of the carb it is coming from your tank which is just about impossible to clean if it has rust in it. A new OMC/Bombardier tank will be in your best interest. Again I would also put an inline filter on your fuel line after your primer bulb. They are but a couple bucks at Autozone.

When my '58 evinrude 35hp did not want to stay running, I checked it all. I had spark, and it would run, but not for long. It turned out that the plate under the flywheel was loose. This, after numerous fruitless carb cleanings, turned out to be the fix to my problem.

ps. I have heard that vinegar should NEVER be used for cleaning gas tanks.

Not yet fireman57. Unfortunately I moved shortly after my last post and due to space concerns I had to take it up to my folks place for winter storage. I will do all that was discussed in the spring. Any other suggestions or similar problems in the meantime would be most appreciated and helpful.
Thanks all!

When you get to it go ahead and start a new post on it as it will be hard to follow an older thread. Note to moderator: I hope I'm telling him correctly. If not stick a post in here. This poor guy is staying with it and I'm proud of him for not forgetting us.
