Evinrude 35 fuel mix / idle/ start problems??!!

My 1984 evinrude 35 has developed some seriously bad habits.<br />After purring along and being a real honey for around 2 hours, not missing a beat, I found that I could not start her without first opening the choke fully and letting it almost start and then on the next pull half choking it. I also had to turn the idle setting up ridicuously high to keep it going when in neutral. It would then only run at anything approaching smoothly on three quarter or greater throttle, anything less required me choke it again while running. I've checked the plugs and fuel mix setting and they seem OK. The engine was serviced last October. <br />Please help <br />thanks<br />Jeremy Airey

This could be a multitude of problems, carbs, ignition (electrical), compression.<br /><br />Re-post this question in the Outboard Engines section and also do a search for starting problems in that forum. You will find it is an often repaeted topic.<br /><br />Welcome to iboats!<br /><br />Bob

hello Captain Bob<br />Thanks for the reply, I'll try what you suggest.<br />Thoght I'd do a quick follow up .<br />This AM I resest the fuel mix setting as per handbook, although it seemed OK, and cleaned and checked the plugsas they seemed somewhat oily.<br />I then adjusted tickover for a fastish idle.<br />It started on half choke at the second pull, ran OK for 5 mins until I stopped it. It restarted ok first pull, I then stopped it again and checked plugs, again they seemed a bit oily. Fired up and ran fine for 15 minutes when I had to leave it for the sake of good neighbourlyness.<br />Do you think it is now OK or is there somrthing else I should check?<br />Regards<br />Jeremy Airey
