Evinrude 40 HP WorkTwin Question

Hello all,
Newbie here. And also a newbie boat owner. I picked up a project boat because I love projects and always wanted to customize my own fishing boat. I've been working on small engines, marine and automotive engines almost my entire life. Well, it came with an Evinrude WorkTwin 40 HP outboard. I want to look up parts for the old girl but I'm finding nothing. The model number is B40RWLCIS or B40RWLCPS. Hard to see in its location. Any help identifying this and guiding me to somewhere where I can find parts such as a coil and potentially a carb would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

That "CI or CR" or whatever is critical in determining the year. "C" stands for 8, R stands for 4 etc. Code word isd INTRODUCES where I is one, N is two, T is three, and so on.

They did not list parts for all the " commercial " motors.----I believe they had a lot of unsold inventory of the 40 that was last marketed in 76.-----It was then re-introduced as a simple commercial model in the 1980's.-----Post a few pictures of the powerhead.----Find parts for it listed for the 84 model year perhaps ?.-----Why do you think you need a carburetor or a coil ?-----It will need a water pump impeller and you might need to buy a complete " upgrade kit " to address that.

Wow you all are an amazing help already. I'll get pictures momentarily. It needs a coil cuz it is missing one. lol Carb, maybe just a rebuild just due to how long it may have sat. I have a nice ultrasonic cleaner here. Water pump impeller eh? Interesting. I'll get pictures and post them.

It may not have an overheat warning or overheat shutdown.----If you do not know how old the impeller is it need a new one !----Simple as that.

Got it. Condition or history completely unknown. It was last registered in 2013 according to the tag on the boat itself.

I am across Lake Huron from Michigan.----- Do a compression test first.--Post the numbers.-----Just finished rebuilding a 74 model 40 Johnson for the grandkids.----A near identical motor as that commercial model you have..----A simple motor that does not require $100 / hr dealer / shop support.

That is my plan tomorrow. Bore scope and compression test. Let you know the findings tomorrow. THANK YOU

And why doesn't the Evinrude site itself not recognize my model? You mentioned it being a commercial motor. What does that mean exactly?

I have a boating friend that couldn't change a sparkplug if his life depended on it.

In my area nobody will even consider working on a 2-stroke.

If anyone decides to buy an oldie, they must be a diy kinda guy.

I am that guy. I've brought so many oldies back to life, I cannot count. So rewarding.

Find a good dealer !!------They did not sell a lot of them so not worth listing.----But I clearly stated that the 83 model might be the same as yours.-----Up to you to do the homework.

Do you have a model to refer to for a coil at least? Maybe I'll pull the one off and see if I can find any numbers on it and cross reference.
