I am that guy too. But I CAN count. Look at my signature.I am that guy. I've brought so many oldies back to life, I cannot count. So rewarding.

I didn't take the covers off yet. I bore scoped it. The motor is outside on the boat still, I am waiting for help to get it on a stand and into the garage before tearing it open.Do the Rings have any tension?
Agreed. I was just happy to not see any heavy grooves or ridges.Cross hatch means nothing to compression
I cannot find model E40RWLCTA anywhere online. :-(I believe you have a motor slightly older than 1984. Why? because it has the beloved Lo-Tension magneto. You need to know this if you are going to order a coil.
EDIT: 1983 model E40RWLCTA has the Lo-Tension magneto. Coil for that one is part number 0502881
I didn't know that the last character didn't matter. New to this boat motor thing. Thanks for the help.Well----I can find that 40 listed for 1983.----But not the A model.------The A means nothing as far as parts are concerned.-----Not sure why you are confused by this.----They just did not sell many of these and only in certain markets.-----Your local friendly dealer ( if you still have one ) can help you with this.
