Please be patient. It is 3 am in the US where most of the post are generated. You will probably get some responses within 8 hours, and even more in 16 hours.

I'm sorry I can't help you with your question, but I am not familiar with your motor.

Re: evinrude 40hp SPARK PROBLEM

Wenham.... It would help if you listed the year of that 40hp engine. But at any rate, you will need to remove the flywheel in order to get at the ignition points. The spark on the magneto engines which I suspect yours is, should jump (with the s/plugs removed) a 1/4" gap with a strong blue flame.

Keep in mind that the flywheel nut (if your engine is in the range of 1960 1970s) must be torqued to exactly 105 foot pounds. Anything less will result in having the flywheel key shear, causing damage to the flywheel and crankshaft tapers.

Re: evinrude 40hp SPARK PROBLEM

I just scrolled down and saw that you had another post where you did list the year as 1964. Your engine has a magneto setup and the flywheel nut torque is as stated 105 foot pounds.

Re: evinrude 40hp SPARK PROBLEM

wenham, You need to use a block type puller and utilize the tapped holes in flywheeel. This transfers the pull closer to the shaft.Tighten all block bolt to same height to insure straight pull. A jaw type puller only lips on the perimeter of flywheel and is like to cause breakage.
