Hi, I hope you guys can clear something up for me. I bought a used boat with a 1992 Evinrude 48 SPL. Went to change the plugs, and it had two Champion QL78C plugs in it. However, the owners manual says one QL78C plug, and one plug with a fixed gap (can't remember exact model number). But, It doesn't say what order to put them in - fixed gap plug on top, bottom, or doesn't matter? I assmue the previous owner just put in two of the QL78C plugs because he couldn't find the fixed gap plug - it took me awhile to find one. I tried looking up in a reference catalog, and it listed a totally different plug than listed in owners manual. Thanks for your help.

Re: Evinrude 48 SPL Plug Question

you should be using QL78YC gapped at .030 in both cylinders.

Re: Evinrude 48 SPL Plug Question

Thanks for the reply. I assume that they changed the plug recommendation since the owners manual was printed. Sounds good, I never understood why they listed two different plugs. Do you know the difference between the ql78c and the ql78yc?
