I picked up a CL special..... It starts great with a little throttle, That has not changed. We have a long no wake zone nearly 15 min. We made our way out @2000 rpm & it felt great. We get to the "END NO WAKE" & I open it up and After a little trim adjustment to stop the porpiusing & cavation It still feel great. WOT @ 5200 & purring like a kitten. some nice tight turns & up & down on the throttle WoW its always a rush. We throttle down a little & cruise for a few min then idle around an island for a few more min. and I mean idle, just in gear with no throttle at all @ 600 rpm and it sounded and felt perfect. We fish for an hr or so and now it is nearing time to go to work. "lets get closer to home base We can stop if we got extra time".
Starts like it always does, let it run on fast idle while we secure the gear. When I drop to idle it stalls. well after a little tweaking on mixture screws (did not seem to realy help much, but made a change 1/4 turn each way) I was able to quick stick it to catch foward & get the throttle up a little. It ran great at that point as well as back to the "no wake" We putted @1800 rpm half way through no wake zone again ran great. A little fishing & again I have to quick stick it to get going. we got to the marina & i get close & have a stright shot to the dock so I go to a idle in gear again & it stalls out.
Now it wont idle without at least most of the first stage timing. And HERE is what i've found.
The PO glued in some sound deadner rubber & the top did not clear the flywheel nut. see pic.
There is rubber dust, not alot but some. I pulled the air bleed jets & they were clean.
Now I also enough oil for 10.5 gals & only added 6 gals of gas, (had more in the 18 gal tank then I thought) SO I figure I am around 30 to 35:1 on oil/fuel mix. Do you think this is my problem, Will this cause it not to idle? I guess I should correct this first, ya?
Back home got the motor in a barrel & tring to get to idle I see a slight spit out of the carbs (like a single dropplet or 1 1/2 dropplets spit out once in a while) looked to be coming out of the air bleed. Reeds?
