Just took delivery of 'Rude 4hp,4636M,56008 and it needs some help.I'm waiting for the manual but would like to get a head start. Seller claimed overheat, sure enough, some hack did a bangup job installing the impeller, destroyed the waterpump housing. I started to do a compression check and found the bottom spark plug hole was stripped out too. I removed head, cylinder walls look good, thank God, no scuffing. I wanted to open the lower unit but I'll be dipped if I can get the prop off, 3 blade plastic, 1 cotter key, I don't want to force anything, like it's previous owner.
I also own a 15HP 1979 Rude (I bought it new) so this is nothing new but the 4HP is a different little animal. Any help on the prop would be greatly appreciated until the cavalry (manual)arrives. Also, what's the opinion on the head, replace or heli-coil??

Re: Evinrude 4HP needs TLC

Hey xcuseme....

These little jewels used a three piece prop. Ya' got the hub, the "clutch" which was rubber and the prop. Try soaking it down with a good lubricant like WD-40 and "persuading" the prop of with a piece of wood. If all else fails, just get a hammer. Just kidding. You could also try some soap solution to loosen it up.

A helix coil will do just fine for the stripped plug hole. Have fun!!

Re: Evinrude 4HP needs TLC

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll give the WD40 a try and Helix coil the head. Again , thanks for your help.

Update: A little WD40,hardwood block, some lite hammer blows,a 1/2 sheared pin,and about 5 miles of monofilament removed, got the job done.

Thanks again, you guys are amazing.!
