For two outings I have been running my 1967 5 hp angler with a 24 to 1 ratio and was just informed that it is supposed to be on a 50 to 1. It doesn't run smokey or give me any problems. Should I drain the tank and remix? Also what are the long term effects if I keep running on the 24 to 1?

Just for future reference. It's best to keep your questions in one thread, even if you add totally different questions over the course of the conversation.

I answered in the other thread.

you don't have to drain the tank, just simply add more oil to the tank. too much is better than not enough. the worst thing you can do to a two stroke is run it too lean.

stewart, by adding more oil to Derons tank it will increase the ratio. 50:1 is 2% oil , 25:1 is 4%.

Best thing to do Deron is to use up what you have left in your tank and next time you refil it add the oil at 50:1.

Check the plugs as the excess oil could foul them a bit, but as stewart says to much opil isnt necessarily a bad thing as a two stroke uses that oil for lubrication.

Or -- determine how much fuel is left in the tank and simply add the same amount of fuel with no oil added. You will end up with 48:1. Otherwise run the remainder of the fuel. It's not hurting anything except the environment.
